From upscale cosmopolitan centers to quintessential small towns and villages, Macomb County offers lifestyle choices for every taste and preference. It is the third most populous county in the state and experienced the most rapid population growth between 2000 and 2010. Its 225 public schools and nearly 50 private and parochial schools educate nearly 130,000 students in grads K-12. Retail centers occupy more than 19 millions square feet including The Mall at Partridge Creek, a 600,000-square-foot open-air shopping center anchored by Parisian, Nordstrom and the MJR Theatres.

Lake St. Clair, bordering southeastern Michigan and southern Ontario, is one of the most popular recreational boating destinations in the country. With 31 miles of shoreline, communities such as St. Clair Shores, Harrison Township, Chesterfield Township and New Baltimore offer opportunities to live on the lakefront or canal property complete with private slips. In fact the county has nearly 100 public and private marinas with slips accommodating roughly 10,000 boats.

In addition to water activities, Macomb County is home to more than 130 parks offering a wide range of all-season activities. Nearly 50 miles of trails provide scenic places to hike, bike and horseback ride. The Macomb Orchard Trail is a 23.5 mile non-motorized path that provides users with a safe transportation and exercise route through central and northern Macomb County. There are also more than 40 public golf courses.

Macomb County’s six old-fashioned downtowns provide residents and visitors alike with a charming assortment of specialty boutiques, antique markets and art galleries as well as lovely places to dine. More than 40 farm markets located throughout the county feature produce grown on the 500+ operating farms located in the northern part of the county. Many farms and orchards also offer “pick your own” fruits and vegetables for a fun outdoor day for the whole family.
